What are the differences between recreational and professional fishing nets?

  • Recreational nets are lighter, often smaller mesh, simpler accessories, intended for hobby fishing.
  • Professional fishing nets are built for durability (heavier ply / gauge, UV-treated, larger mesh sizes), often custom made with added components like floats, leads, and tougher materials.
  • Note: professional nets may require additional regulatory compliance / licensing depending on location.

Can I order custom fishing nets (with floats, leads, rope)? How does that work?

  • Yes, Haverford offers custom-made fishing nets. You can specify your required mesh type, depth, width, and additions like floats, lead rope, etc.
  • Some custom nets may take more lead time (e.g. up to 2 weeks or depending on specifications).
  • Also, if you're a commercial fisher, you may need a valid, non-expired commercial fishing licence to order certain net types.

What material and mesh size should I choose for my fishing application?

Material: Common options include nylon, polyethylene (PE), mono-filament, knotless netting. Each has trade-offs in strength, flexibility, and handling. For example, knotless nets are softer (less damage to fish & gear) and good for aquaculture.

Mesh size / ply: Depends on what you're targeting (fish size, species or use). Larger mesh gives less water resistance but may let smaller species escape. Heavier ply or thicker line gives strength.

UV treatment is important for durability outdoors or in marine conditions.

Is my net customisation done in Australia, and what are the shipping / delivery times?

Customization is done in Haverford’s workshop in Sydney. They have industrial machines for stitching, edging and net joining.

For large or more complex nets there may be longer lead times; sometimes parts or netting components may be sourced or finished overseas depending on project scale.
