Why bee netting

Pollination is good. Cross-pollination, fruit fly and seedy fruit are not.

A physical barrier is the most reliable way to control what reaches your fruit during pollination. Quatra Bee Netting is built to do exactly that, and to last more than one season.

01 / Cross-pollination

Keep cultivars pure for export and seedless markets.

Bees move pollen between varieties. For mandarins, mangoes, cherries and the like, that's the difference between an A-grade box and a write-off. Netting decides what reaches the flower.

02 / Pest exclusion

Fruit fly, wasps, hail damage and birds, blocked together.

50gsm and 60gsm mesh sizes block fruit fly while still letting air and light through the canopy. The same net handles birds, wasps, and most hail events without a second cover.

03 / Built for the Australian sun

UV-stabilised HDPE that doesn't crack after one summer.

High-density polyethylene, UV-stabilised, weatherproof. Roll it up after harvest, store it dry, redeploy next pollination season. Most growers see five seasons or more.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Bee Netting

Will bees still pollinate my fruit if it's covered?

Bee netting is for the period after pollination is complete. Growers cover trees once flowers have set, before fruit develops, to keep cross-pollination and pests out of the canopy. The net stays on through to harvest, then comes off, gets stored, and goes back on next season.

What mesh size is Quatra Bee Netting?

Quatra Bee Netting comes in 50gsm and 60gsm. Both weights block bees and most fruit fly while still letting air, light and water through the canopy. 60gsm is a heavier net for blocks that also see hail or strong wind.

How do I install it over my trees?

Two common approaches: drape directly over individual trees and tie at the trunk, or run rolls across a trellis or fixed frame for whole-row coverage. We can talk you through the option that fits your block when we quote.

Can you customise sizes?

Yes. We can supply custom sizing. Please get in contact and we can have it specially made.

What's the lead time on a custom order?

Please get in contact and we can confirm a date with your quote.

Do you ship Australia-wide?

Yes, we ship Australia wide! Freight cost depends on roll size and your post code; we include freight in your quote so there are no surprises at checkout.

Is the netting reusable season after season?

Yes. UV-stabilised HDPE handles repeated deployment well. Most growers report five seasons or more from a single net if it's rolled up dry, stored out of direct sun, and inspected for snags before each redeployment.

Is bee netting the same as bird or hail netting?

Different mesh sizes for different jobs. Bird netting has larger holes (around 19mm) and won't stop bees or fruit fly. Hail netting is heavier and more visible. Quatra Bee Netting's tighter mesh blocks bees, fruit fly, and most pests, and handles light hail. If you're weighing options, talk to us, we sell all three and we'll spec the right one.
